Business Cellular Management & Cost Reduction – GPS Enabled Fleet Tracking Track Fields

Almost everyone today has GPS, we all know what it is and what it does.

GPS enabled fleet tracking devices are a different game than they were 10 years ago.The issue has always been sustainability. In recent years installing GPS tracking in a company vehicle was expensive, and while the cost is always going down, it’s still somewhat expensive. So how do we really know if it’s worth the few hundred dollars a month to actually use these tracking systems in our business.

What most executives don’t know is how much GPS tracking can help save thousands to tens of thousands a year. The ability to sit at your desk for 5 minutes and see where every vehicle in your fleet is and its status is a huge value if you have multiple vehicles on the road. Imagine getting a message if one of you trucks is speeding over 90 km/h, or if it stopped at a coffee shop for more than 10 minutes, or when speeds of 100+km/h are reached. Oil pressure, coolant, and even engine temperature sensors are available for the modern day fleet tracking systems. By being aware of what tools we have available to use, lets us use them to reduce wasted time and resources.

There are many things that tracking systems can do for you. By listing a few of these services and their benefits we can realize a better understanding of how you can make these work for your business. There are a few main services to choose from.

Basic Fleet Management:

Many companies provide this service. Most of the time they are fairly similar, showing you a detailed city map and locations of your drivers at user defined times (5 min. intervals). Usually using standard cell phone tracking services to pinpoint your location. The best part about cell phone tracking systems is these services are relatively cheap and easy to install in most vehicles. Keep in mind that the tracking devices do require a monthly package, like a GPS cell phone or a small on board tracking device. Basic cell phone tracking can be as cheap as $10 a month per vehicle.

Proximity Tracking:

Set points of interest using specific fleet software. When an employee goes to a location’s proximity, the fleet software sends a message notifying you of the unscheduled stop. It’s generally as easy as selecting the point and deciding on the size of the alert field. Even when just the morning coffee” is at stake, this can be a wasted 15 minute trip every day.

Time Stamping:

Using proximity you can pay according to when your guys arrive at the jobsite. When they leave for lunch, and when they go home, are also easily traceable. If you have a fleet that is consistently on the road just this alone can save you tens of thousands a year. Plus, no more timesheets!

Fleet Maintenance / Sustainability:

Some equipment allows for you to connect directly to your engine for mobile fleet maintenance. Monitor basic engine heat, oil temperature/pressure, speed, maximum RPM’s, and even fuel levels from your fleet software.

Set it up to have your mechanics call a vehicle in, when they are sent the information that something’s wrong from the fleet maintenance software directly. With expensive vehicles, expect to save a year’s worth of fleet management costs in just one repair.

Security:

Don’t forget the underlying issues, safety and protecting your investment.

***Reminder***
100% of the time, when your company vehicle moves, it’s costing you money.
Don’t let your vehicles be where they shouldn’t be, ever!
*** Reminder ***

Better than any alarm system, your GPS tracking system tells you where it is and is usually much harder to bypass. View the exact route the vehicle took after it was stolen. Reclaim the property stored in the vehicle faster and reduce your chances of loss.
